accept payments in the AI studio

Learn how to sell and accept payments in AI Studio projects, and access our step-by-step instructions, FAQs, and everything you need to know!

before you dive in

You can now sell your offers directly inside an AI Studio project, without linking out to a separate checkout. You can build a full online store or a single checkout page, connecting the products, prices, and payment processor you already have set up in ivorey. Every purchase is recorded in your account like any other sale, so your contacts, orders, and automations stay in one place.

what's built into the AI studio checkout?

AI Studio can generate a secure checkout, directly inside your project. Card details are entered and processed in a hosted checkout, never in your project's code, and order totals are checked behind the scenes so buyers are charged exactly what they see.

Buyers can pay by card through your connected payment processor, or with PayPal Express Checkout. Checkouts in the AI Studio also:

  • Let buyers enter your coupon codes, and process fully discounted orders without asking for card details

  • Accept gift cards on one-time purchases

  • Supports one-time and recurring payments

  • Match your project's branding and style, rather than using a fixed default design

  • Display in the buyer's browser language (13 languages supported)

  • Run bot protection on every purchase

what isn’t supported in AI studio payments?

A few things aren't currently available in AI Studio payments. Here's what to keep in mind, and what to use instead:

  • Physical products - Shipping and pickup options aren't supported, so we don't recommend AI Studio for selling physical products. Instead, use an Online Store in Site Pages. Please refer to our All About Online Stores Master Help Guide for the details

  • Manual payments - Manual payment methods, such as Cash on Delivery, aren't available

  • Payments on AI Studio calendars - Booking calendars created inside AI Studio can't take payments. Instead, have customers pay through your AI Studio checkout first, then send them to your calendar to book. If you’re embedding an existing ivorey calendar, make sure payments are turned off in that calendar's settings, so customers aren't charged twice

  • Product personalisation - Custom details such as engraving text or printing instructions can't be passed through to orders

This guide is perfect if you want to:

  • Sell your digital products, programs, or services directly from an AI Studio project

  • Offer subscriptions and post-purchase upsells inside a custom-built experience

  • Keep every AI Studio sale and new lead flowing into your ivorey account

AI Studio also comes at an additional usage-based cost, so please refer to our Billing and Inclusions guide for current pricing.

how to accept payments in the AI studio

AI Studio takes care of how your products and checkout look inside your project, while ivorey handles the order processing and records behind the scenes.

Prerequisite: Make sure your products and prices are set up, and your payment processor is already connected in ivorey.

step 1: set up payments and products in your project

Your project connects the products, prices, and variations already saved in your ivorey product catalogue, along with your connected payment processor. You can choose exactly which products your project can sell and how each one is priced.

click here for the written steps
  1. From the main ivorey menu, go to AI Studio > and start a new project with a prompt, or open an existing project

  2. Enable payments using one of these options:

    1. While AI Studio builds your project - Describe what you want to sell in your prompt (e.g. "Build a sales page and checkout for my 6-week coaching program") > if AI Studio detects that you want to sell something, an Add payments to this app prompt appears > click [Enable Payments] > and answer any follow-up questions

    2. By asking AI Studio directly - In the chat panel, prompt AI Studio to "add payments" > and approve the connection on the card that appears in the chat

    3. Manually - Inside your project, click the 📦 box icon, at the top, next to the Preview button > go to the [Payments] tab > and click [Enable Payments]

Note: If you don't see the Payments tab, your project may have been built on an older framework. Click the [⌄] drop-down next to your project name, in the top left corner > click [Settings] > and on the Project Settings tab, click [Migrate to SSR] to create an upgraded copy of your project. Your original project stays unchanged and live.

  3. Under Payment method, confirm which payment processor is connected (e.g. Stripe):

    1. Click [Connect] if no payment processor is connected yet

    2. Click [Manage] to review or update your existing payment integration

Note: If a payment processor is already connected in your ivorey account, AI Studio uses that same setup for your project.

  4. Under Payment products, click the [+ Add products] button at the top right > search for your product by name or SKU > select the product/s you want to add > and click [Continue to pricing]

  5. Choose how each product should be offered:

    1. Fixed price - Select the specific price or variation customers will purchase

    2. Customer chooses variation - Allow customers to choose from the variations already set up on that product (e.g. different tiers or package sizes)

    3. Review your setup > and click [Add product]

warning icon
The AI Studio checkout will charge the price set here, not your product's default catalogue price. This means any price changes you make later in Payments > Products won't automatically change the price in your project. To update a price in the AI Studio, remove the product, reconnect it, and select the new price.

step 2: build and customise your checkout

With your products added, you can use the AI Studio chat to shape how customers browse and buy, and what they see afterwards. Describe what you want, and AI Studio will build it into your project.

click here for the written steps
  1. From the main ivorey menu, go to AI Studio > and open the project you want to add a checkout to

  2. In your project's chat panel, tell AI Studio about the selling experience you want:

    1. An online store - Product listings and detail pages pulled from your product catalogue (with thumbnails and formatted descriptions), plus a cart

    2. A single checkout page - One standalone checkout for a specific offer, which can sit on its own page or open in a pop-up

  3. Choose which details buyers fill in at checkout - you can show, hide, or require the phone number field and each billing address field (street, city, state, ZIP, and country), for example: "Make phone required and hide the billing address"

Note: Name and email are always required. If you use Automatic Taxes, keep the full billing address showing, as tax can only be calculated from a complete address.

  4. (optional) Get AI Studio to create a two-step checkout:

    1. Step 1 - Saves the buyer as a contact in your CRM, so anyone who doesn't complete their payment is still a lead you can follow up with

    2. Step 2 - Collects the payment

  5. (optional) Sell recurring plans, including free trials and setup fees, by adding your recurring products (follow Step 1 above). Buyers can purchase more than one subscription product in the same cart

  6. (optional) Instruct AI Studio to show buyers an upsell offer after their purchase:

    1. Buyers can accept the offer in one click, without entering their card details again - supported by Stripe (including 3D Secure), Square, Authorize.net, NMI, Adyen, or Mercado Pago

    2. Other payment methods use a standard payment form

Note: An upsell can only be charged once the original order has been paid, and only once per order, even if the buyer has several tabs open.

  7. Choose what buyers see after payment:

    1. Default confirmation screen - Show the order ID, items, taxes, and total amount paid, plus the upcoming charge for subscriptions (if applicable)

    2. A custom thank-you page - Instruct AI Studio to send buyers to a custom page that displays their order details (e.g. "Send buyers to my own thank-you page after payment"), and delivers their digital product with a link (if applicable)

  8. Click the 💻 desktop icon, at the top of the page, to preview your store and checkout across Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile

Note: The payment code in your project is managed by the platform, so it can't be broken by accident. If it's edited in Code mode, the changes are restored on the next prompt, so always make checkout changes through the chat.

step 3: set up your post-purchase workflow

Workflows let you automate what happens after someone buys through your AI Studio checkout, such as tagging the contact, notifying your team, and sending a confirmation or delivery email. If you're using a two-step checkout, you can also follow up with leads who start checking out but don't complete their payment.

click here for the written steps

Update an existing post-purchase workflow:

  1. From the main ivorey menu, go to Workflows > open the post-purchase workflow for the product you've connected to your AI Studio project > and click on the trigger to open it

  2. Review the trigger's filters:

    1. Filtered by Global Product only - This workflow already fires for every purchase of this product, including AI Studio purchases, so no changes are needed

    2. Also filtered by In Website/Funnel - This workflow only fires for purchases made in that funnel or website, so it won't fire for AI Studio purchases. Remove this filter if you want the same workflow to run for every purchase of this product, or follow the steps below to create a separate workflow

  3. Click [Save Trigger] > and click the [Save] button at the top right corner of your workflow

Create a new post-purchase workflow:

  1. In Workflows, click the [+ Create Workflow] button > select [+ Start from Scratch] > and name your workflow (e.g. Post-Purchase: AI Studio Offer Name)

Note: To save time, you can duplicate an existing post-purchase workflow instead. Click the [⋮] three dots next to the workflow > select [Duplicate workflow] > and rename it

  2. Click the [+ Add New Trigger] button > search for and select Order submitted

  3. Click [Add Filters] > select Global Product > in the Select Operator drop-down, select [is] > and select the product you connected to your AI Studio project

    1. (optional) Add a Product Price filter if you want this workflow to fire for one specific price point only

  4. Click [Save Trigger] > click the [Settings] tab > and toggle ON Allow multiple Opportunities, so the workflow also fires for any upsell purchases

  5. Go back to the [Builder] tab > and add your actions, such as Add Contact Tag, Send Internal Notification, and Send Email. Please refer to our Post-Purchase Workflows guide for the detailed steps for each action

  6. Toggle the workflow to [Publish] at the top right corner > and click the [Save] button

Create an abandoned cart workflow (two-step checkout only):

  1. In Workflows, click the [+ Create Workflow] button > select [+ Start from Scratch] and name it (e.g. Abandoned Cart: AI Studio Offer Name)

  2. Click the [+ Add New Trigger] button > search for and select [Contact created] > add a filter so the workflow only fires for leads from your AI Studio checkout > and click [Save Trigger]

Note: Without a filter, this workflow will fire for every new contact in your account. This trigger also only fires for brand new contacts, so an existing contact who starts your checkout and doesn't pay won't enter this workflow.

  3. Click the [+] button to add each of these actions:

    1. Wait - Add a delay (e.g. 1 hour) to give the lead time to complete their purchase

    2. Add Contact Tag - Tag the lead (e.g. Abandoned Cart: Offer Name), so you can track who didn't complete checkout

    3. Send Email - Send your abandoned cart email, with a button linking back to your AI Studio checkout page

    4. Send Internal Notification (optional) - Get notified when someone abandons their cart

  4. Toggle the workflow to [Publish] > and click the [Save] button

  5. Open your AI Studio post-purchase workflow > add a Remove from workflow action at the top, and select your abandoned cart workflow > then (optional) add a Remove Contact Tag action to remove the abandoned cart tag once they purchase > and click [Save]

step 4: test your checkout and go live

Payments start in Test mode by default, so you can check your products, pricing, and checkout without processing real charges. Once everything works as expected, switch to Live mode to start accepting real payments.

click here for the written steps
  1. From the main ivorey menu, go to AI Studio > and open the project you want to test

  2. Inside your project, click the 📦 box icon at the top > go to the [Payments] tab > confirm your payment Mode is set to Test > and click the [x] in the top right corner, to return to your project

  3. Click the [↗] square arrow icon at the top of the page to preview your project in a new tab > and complete a test purchase using test card details:

    1. Check that the test order appears in your orders (see the section below) > and that a contact was created in Contacts

    2. Open your post-purchase workflow > go to the [Execution Logs] tab > and check that each step was successful. If any action shows an Error status, click [View Details] to find out why

  4. Go back to your AI Studio project > click the 📦 box icon > Payments > and switch your payment Mode to [Live]

  5. Click [Publish] in the top right corner of your screen > and click [Publish] again to push your latest changes live

Note: Changes stay in draft until you publish again. For the full publishing and custom domain steps, please refer to our AI Studio guide.

  6. Go to Payments in your AI Studio project, at any time, to manage your Payment products, switch your payment Mode, or click the [Disable] button to turn payments off for your project

manage AI studio orders

Every AI Studio purchase creates a contact and an order in your ivorey account, the same as sales from any other checkout. This makes it easy to see who bought what, and from which project.

click here for the written steps
  1. From the main ivorey menu, go to Payments > and along the top menu bar, click on [Orders]

  2. Click on an order to view the customer, purchased products, payment status, transaction details, and fulfilment information

  3. Under the Source section, confirm the order came from AI Studio, and view the related project name, project ID, and domain

frequently asked questions

can i sell a subscription through an AI studio checkout?

Yes, you can sell subscriptions through your AI Studio checkout. Recurring payments and free trials are fully supported.

can i refund an AI studio order?

Yes. AI Studio orders are processed through your connected payment processor, like any other sale in ivorey, so refunds and subscription cancellations are managed from Payments. Please refer to our Refund Payments or Cancel Subscriptions guide for the steps

which payment processor works best with AI studio payments?

We recommend Stripe, as it supports one-click upsells (including 3D Secure) and works across every area of ivorey. PayPal Express Checkout is also available, but PayPal has some limitations in ivorey, such as with multiple recurring purchases. Please refer to our Set Up Your Payment Processor guide for the details.
