How to Purchase a System Phone Number to send SMS in Ivorey™

Learn how to setup a System Phone Number with Ivorey™ so you can use the SMS feature to communicate with your clients.

Important Information to know when considering purchasing a system Phone Number:

  • SMS messages are charged per 140 character limit, so depending on the size of your message, would depend on how many SMS charges you would incur per message sent.
    For example: if your SMS message was 150 characters, you would get charged for 2 x SMS for the one SMS message. You can use a free character counter like 'Word Counter' to check the total characters of your SMS.

  • All charges are in USD. This is important to consider if you run your business in AUD for example, or if the charges made to your bank account don't match up with the total amount listed in your Wallet and Transactions tab within Ivorey™

  • The cost per SMS is - $0.0198/segment (a segment is 140 characters)

  • You receive $20 USD complimentary credit each month from us to go towards things like your SMS and emails, but if you use this credit within the month, then the card that is attached to your Ivorey™ account, will be charged for any costs incurred above your monthly credit. It is also important to note here that your Wallet Balance can not be $0, so once your Wallet Balance reaches $0, it will automatically charge your bank account $10USD to recharge.


Taking into consideration of the above, if you would still like to use SMS feature for your business, please follow the steps below to purchase a system phone number:

How to Purchase an Australian Phone Number in Ivorey™:

STEP 1. From your Ivorey™ Dashboard go to [Settings] and click on [Phone Numbers]

STEP 2. Click on [+ Add Number] on the top right > then select "Add Phone Number"

STEP 3. Select the country for which you want to buy the number for from the drop down menu > then select your number from the list provided (you can use the filter option to search for desirable numbers based on first or last digit numbers)

Note: If you are in Australia, you will also need to purchase a regulatory bundle/address.

STEP 4. Select the number of your choice > then click on the "Proceed to Buy" button to complete the purchase. This will buy the selected phone number for you and your phone number will be added under the [Phone Numbers] tab.

How can I use the SMS feature in IVOREY™?

To use the SMS feature inside of Ivorey™, you first need to apply for and purchase a system phone number by following the steps below:


1. From your Ivorey™ Dashboard go to [Settings] and click on [Phone Numbers]

2. Click on [+ Add Number] on the top right > then click "Add Phone Number"

3. Select the country for which you want to buy the number for from the drop down menu > then select your number from the list provided (you can use the filter option to search for desirable numbers based on first or last digit numbers)

Note: If you are in Australia, you will also need to purchase a regulatory bundle/address.

4. Select the number of your choice > then click on the "Proceed to Buy" button to complete the purchase

5. Once approved, the phone number will be added under the [Phone Numbers] tab.

How is SMS charged?

SMS messages are charged per 140-character segment. This means that if your SMS message to a contact is 144-characters, you will be charged the cost of 2 x SMS messages. For every 140-characters included in your SMS message, you will be charged for the corresponding about of SMS even though you are only sending the one message.

You can use a simple character counter site if you need to check you character limit like 'Character Counter' to check how many SMS you can expect to be charged for.

Why did my card get charged for SMS?

If you have recently noticed a charge to your bank account outside of your monthly subscription with Ivorey™, please go to [Settings] > [Billing] > [Wallet & Transactions]. Inside your wallet you will see a summary of your transactions and where the credit/money has been used.

We gift you a $20 USD credit each month to use, but once you have used your monthly credit, you will automatically be charged $10USD, as your wallet can not be a total of $0.

If you feel you have been charged incorrectly, please reach out to our support team so we can resolve this as soon as possible for you.

Can I make voice calls within Australia?
