This guide is perfect if you want to:

  • Learn how to import contacts and tags into Ivorey™

  • Learn how to clean your contact list

Note ‼️ You are responsible for ensuring:

  • You have permission to contact these individuals

  • You have contacted them within the past year

  • The list is not from a third-party source

How To Import Contacts Into Ivorey™

You can import your contacts from another platform quickly and easily. You can map their details, add tags, and create smart lists so everything stays organised. You don’t have to use every option, but mapping tags and creating lists helps you segment your audience and get campaigns or courses running smoothly right away.

Note: Cleaning your contacts before importing them is a crucial step for maintaining a healthy email list and boosting your deliverability. By starting with a clean list and using our in-built email verification tools, you increase the chances of landing in your audience's inbox, which leads to higher open rates and better overall engagement.

  1. Clean your list first in your external mailing platform (e.g. remove anyone who's blacklisted, inactive, unsubscribed)

  2. Export your contacts as a CSV file from your external mailing platform

  3. From the Ivorey™ main menu, go to [Contacts]

  4. Along the menu bar above your contact list, click on the downwards facing arrow icon that says [Import Contacts]

  5. In the next screen, tick the [Contacts] box > then click [Next] at the bottom right of the screen

  6. In the [Upload] screen, click to upload your CSV file > then select [Create and Update Contacts] from the dropdown menu underneath > then click [Next]

  7. In the [Map] screen, go through and map the details you want to import into Ivorey from your CSV file.

Note: Some of these fields will automatically map for you, others you will need to manually choose from the dropdown list under the [Fields] row

  8. Once you have mapped all of the fields you want to import, make sure the [Don't import data in X unmapped columns] is checked > then click [Next]

  9. In the [Verify] screen you can select your preferences

Note: these are all optional settings, but apply to ALL contacts included in the CSV file you are importing if selected

    1. [Create a Smartlist for new contacts created by the import]:

This is where you can create a separate list for the contacts in this CSV file.

For example if your CSV file only has contacts that have signed up to your waitlist, then you could create a Smartlist called 'Waitlist'.

This means your contacts will be imported to your contacts tab, but will also be organised under their own list to make it really easy to reference for future needs (skip if not relevant)

    2. [Add imported contacts to a workflow]:

Here you can select a workflow you already have setup and published inside of Ivorey™ that you want your whole list to be added to (skip if not relevant)

    3. [Add tags to imported contacts]: This means you can add additional tags that you have already created inside of Ivorey to your whole list (skip if not relevant)

  10. Once you have updated your preferences, please check that your fields have been mapped correctly > then tick the [I confirm all contacts in this import have consented to hear from us] box > then click the [Start Bulk Import] button at the bottom right of the screen to import your CSV file

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import without email or phone?

You need at least one of these: name, email, or phone to create a contact

Can I skip some CSV columns?

Yes! Simply leave any columns you don’t need unmapped during the field mapping step

Where can I see my past imports?

You can view all previous imports by going to Bulk Actions

Why am I getting a 'Contact ID' error during my bulk contact import?

If you encounter an error while importing a contact list, it is often because the file contains a Contact ID column from another platform. Because this specific ID value is not native to Ivorey™, the system is unable to recognise or accept it, which causes the import to fail.

To resolve this, simply open your CSV or Excel file and remove the Contact ID column entirely. Once that column is deleted, save the file and try the import again. Ivorey™ will then be able to process the remaining contact information (like names and emails) without issue.
