Follow these steps to clean and import your contact list in Ivorey:

Step 1: How to Clean Your Contact List

Before importing, make sure your list is:

  • Free of duplicates and outdated emails.

  • Properly formatted (CSV or Excel).

  • Permission-based: only include contacts who’ve opted in.

  • Safe-listed: encourage contacts to add your email to their address book to avoid spam filters.

You can clean your list using external tools like Mailchimp, ConvertKit, or even Excel filters.

Step 2: Import into Ivorey™

After your list is cleaned, you need to import it into your account using these steps:

  1. Go to Contacts in your Ivorey dashboard.

  2. Click Import Contacts.

  3. Upload your cleaned CSV or Excel file.

  4. Map your fields (e.g., First Name, Email, Tags).

  5. Click Import and wait for confirmation.

💡 Best Practice Tips:

Use tags or smart lists to segment contacts for future campaigns.
Merge duplicates using Ivorey’s Contact Merge feature.
Always send a test email before launching a full campaign.

Cleaning your contacts before importing them is a crucial step for maintaining a healthy email list and boosting your deliverability. By starting with a clean list and using our in-built email verification tools, you increase the chances of landing in your audience's inbox, which leads to higher open rates and better overall engagement.

  1. Clean your list first in your external mailing platform (e.g. remove anyone who's blacklisted, inactive, unsubscribed)

  2. Export your contacts as a CSV file from your external mailing platform

  3. From the Ivorey™ main menu, go to [Contacts]

  4. Along the menu bar above your contact list, click on the downwards facing arrow icon that says 'Import Contacts'

  5. In the next screen, tick the [Contacts] box > then click [Next] at the bottom right of the screen

  6. In the [Upload] screen, click to upload your CSV file > then select [Create and Update Contacts] from the dropdown menu underneath > then click [Next]

  7. In the [Map] screen, go through and map the details you want to import into Ivorey from your CSV file.

Some of these fields will automatically map for you, others you will need to manually choose from the dropdown list under the [Fields] row

  8. Once you have mapped all of the fields you want to import, make sure the [Don't import data in X unmapped columns] is checked > then click [Next]

  9. In the [Verify] screen you can select your preferences

(note: these are all optional settings, but apply to ALL contacts included in the CSV file you are importing if selected)

    1. [Create a Smartlist for new contacts created by the import]:

This is where you can create a seperate list for the contacts in this CSV file.

For example if your CSV file only has contacts that have signed up to your waitlist, then you could create a Smartlist called 'Waitlist'.

This means your contacts will be imported to your contacts tab, but will also be organised under their own list to make it really easy to reference for future needs (skip if not relevant)

    2. [Add imported contacts to a workflow]:

Here you can select a workflow you already have setup and published inside of Ivorey™ that you want your whole list to be added to (skip if not relevant)

    3. [Add tags to imported contacts]: This means you can add additional tags that you have already created inside of Ivorey to your whole list (skip if not relevant)

  10. Once you have updated your preferences, please check that your fields have been mapped correctly > then tick the [I confirm all contacts in this import have consented to hear from us] box > then click the [Start Bulk Import] button at the bottom right of the screen to import your CSV file

Ivorey™ requires confirmation that you are importing contacts from a compliant list.

You are responsible for ensuring:

  • You have permission to contact these individuals.

  • You have contacted them within the past year.

  • The list is not from a third-party source.

By ticking the confirmation field, you agree to these terms.
