This article is one step from our Master Help Guide: All About Blogs. We recommend starting with the visual walkthrough video and examples inside the Master Help Guide before diving into the technical breakdown below.
Each Master Help Guide acts as your project plan – teaching you the feature, laying out the steps in the right order, and linking to every resource you’ll need along the way.
This guide is perfect if you want to:
Create and publish a blog post
Build blog posts using text, images, videos, audio, links, and quotes
Update blog post details such as title, URL slug, category, and author
Save posts as drafts, publish them immediately, or schedule them for a future date
Understand how blog post statuses (draft, published, scheduled) work
Now that you have set up and customised your blog site, it's time to create and publish your first blog post!
From the Ivorey
main menu, go to Site Pages > along the top menu bar, click [Blogs] > and click to open the blog site you want to edit
Click the [⁝] three dots on one of the Sample Blog Post templates we've provided > select [Duplicate Post] > and once this has been copied, click [Delete Blog Post] on the two published sample post templates, so you can choose when your customised posts are published
Click on the copy blog post template, to start editing > edit the title at the top of the page > and start writing your first blog post
Note: Make sure to click the [Save] button regularly.
Once you have finished creating your blog post, click the [Continue] button, in the the top right corner of the screen:
Select the [Draft] option, to save your post as a draft
Or select the [Publish] option, to post immediately:
Select the Published Date - this will be displayed on your post
Or select the [Schedule] option, to schedule it for a future date:
Select the Schedule At date and time, that your post should go live
Edit the URL Slug
Select a blog Category from the drop-down, or create one by clicking the [+] plus icon
Select an Author from the drop-down, or create one by clicking the [+] plus icon
Add in the Canonical Link - this should be the URL link for your blog page (e.g. yourdomain.com/blog/your-blog-post-title)
Add Keywords that are relevant to the post - type in one keyword, and press the Enter key on your keyboard to save it, then continue with the rest (we recommend no more than 10 keywords)
On the right hand side of the screen, you can also [Preview] your post, and fill in the SEO Meta Data:
Add a Meta Title: this will auto-fill with the title of your blog post
Change the Cover Image: this is the image that will appear when shared on social media
Add Alt Text: this can be a short 'tag' for your image
Post Description: this is a short description for your viewers to get an idea of the post content. We recommend keeping this to 100 - 250 characters
Once you have completed all of the above details, click the [Draft], [Publish] or [Schedule] button, in the top right corner (depending on the settings you chose)
Note: Once a blog post is published, the author, category, keywords, and URL slug cannot be changed. Please ensure these details are correct before publishing.
Your blog post will now display with the relevant status (Draft, Published, or Scheduled), on the [Blog Posts] tab of your Blog Site, and will automatically update when your blog is live
No, currently Custom Values are not supported in blog posts. You cannot use values like {{contact. name}} or {{custom_values.xyz}}.
We don't have a specific recommended size for images in your blog post. However, the page width inside the blog post editor is 736 px.
