# A2P registration

Learn all about A2P Registration and access our step-by-step instructions, FAQs, and everything you need to know!

## before you dive in

Before you steam ahead in submitting your A2P Brand or Campaign registration, here's some good-to-know information that will ensure you understand what A2P registration is, and whether it is required based on your needs.

what is A2P and why do i need it?

Some countries require legal documentation before a number can be activated. These are industry regulations, _not something ivorey controls_, and are handled via third-party review.

If you want to register phone services in the United States or Canada through ivorey, then A2P 10DLC registration is a **legal requirement**. A2P means "Application-to-Person" and 10DLC is your 10-Digit Long Code (your standard business phone number).

You'll need to purchase and complete A2P registration, which verifies your business as a legitimate sender for SMS and helps you to stay compliant and avoid being flagged as spam.

what's a trust score?

After you register, your brand gets a Trust Score. It tells carriers how trustworthy your brand is. Higher scores = higher message throughput (faster and more reliable sending).

Your Trust Score is based on:

- Whether your info matches across your website, brand name, and messages

- How transparent you are about opt-in and opt-out

- Your messaging history

This guide is perfect if you're looking to:

- Complete your A2P Registration so you can make phone calls and/or send SMS's in the USA or Canada

> **Info:** If you're registering for an Australian number, you'll require a [Regulatory Address Bundle](https://cqcighsbi.gleap.help/en/articles/11631484-australian-phone-numbers-address-and-regulatory-bundles) instead, not A2P.

## how to avoid rejection

The most common reason A2P applications get rejected isn't missing information, it's inconsistencies between your website, your opt-in form, and your campaign description. Read through the recommendations below carefully before submitting.

click here for opt-in form recommendations

If your website has more than one form that collects phone numbers, every single one must be compliant. If even one form is missed, your application will be rejected.

Your opt-in form must include two **separate** consent checkboxes with very clear wording to explain what they are agreeing to. Here is the recommended wording:

- **Marketing opt-in:**

"I consent to receive marketing text messages, about special offers, discounts, and service updates, from \[Business Name\] at the phone number provided. Message frequency may vary. Message & data rates may apply. Text HELP for assistance, reply STOP to opt out."

- **Non-marketing opt-in:**

"I consent to receive non-marketing text messages from \[Business Name\] about \[description of use case, e.g. appointment reminders and booking confirmations\]. Message frequency may vary. Message & data rates may apply. Text HELP for assistance, reply STOP to opt out."

**Note:** If your business also sends AI Voice calls, this consent cannot be bundled in with your SMS checkboxes. You'll need a third, separate checkbox specifically for Voice consent.

**Both checkboxes must be:**

- Optional - the form must be submittable even if neither box is checked

- Not pre-checked - the contact must actively choose to opt in

- Acting on selection - you must only send the communication type a contact has consented to (marketing or non-marketing)

- Links - Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions links must be visible near the submit button (and functional)

**Note:** The \[Business Name\] used in your checkboxes must **exactly match** the name on your CP 575/147C document.

**Note for DBAs:** If you operate under a different brand name to your registered business name, add the following to your Campaign Use Case Description: "We are doing DBA as \[Brand Name\]." Make sure your DBA relationship is clearly stated on your website - typically in your Terms & Conditions. If it can’t be found, your application may be rejected.

Every consent checkbox must clearly disclose all of the following, or your application may be rejected:

- Your Legal Business Name (and DBA, if applicable)

- The type of messaging activity

- A message and data rates disclosure

- A message frequency disclosure

- Opt-out instructions (e.g. "Reply STOP")

- Customer care instructions (e.g. "Text HELP")

**Campaign Specifics**

Your campaign description must directly align with the language in your consent checkboxes, and must make sense for your type of business.

- If your campaign includes appointment reminders or service notifications, your non-marketing checkbox must reference those specific message types - not just say "non-marketing messages"

- If your campaign includes special offers or discounts, your marketing checkbox must reference those - not just say "marketing messages"

- Your campaign use case must match your business model. For example, using an "appointment reminder" use case for a business that doesn't take appointments will be flagged

click here for policy & terms recommendations

**Privacy Policy**

Your Privacy Policy must be linked in the footer of your opt-in form. Avoid using words like "share," "sell," "affiliate," or "third party" anywhere they could be read as implying you share lead data, and include a non sharing clause. Here is the recommended wording:

- "No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties."

**Note:** Your Privacy Policy must never reference the selling, buying, or sharing of leads.

**Terms of Service**

Your Terms of Service must include the following terms, customised for your business:

- Your Business Name

- Brief description of the kinds of messages users can expect to receive when they opt in. For example:

    - You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text "STOP" to \[Phone Number\]. After you send the SMS message "STOP" to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

    - If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the “HELP” for more assistance, or you can get help directly at \[support email address or toll-free number\].

- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

- Instructions for re-enrolling after opting out (e.g. reply "START" to resubscribe)

- Message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. You will receive \[message frequency\]. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.

- If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our privacy policy: \[link to privacy policy\]

- A note confirming your business name if you operate under a DBA, along with the legal business name it's associated with

Your website plays a bigger role in A2P approval than most people expect. Carriers review it directly, so it needs to read as a genuine, established business presence rather than a single page built just to collect phone numbers.

**Required elements:**

- **Logo:** must be clearly visible

- **Navigation bar:** must link to distinct pages, such as About, Services, and Contact Us

**Note:** Anchor links on a single page (sometimes called section navigation) are not recommended, as these often get flagged as a temporary or compliance only page.

- **Business description:** clear sections explaining your business model, offerings, and services

- **Footer:** must appear on every page of your website and include:

    - Links to your Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions

    - Your Legal Business Name (and DBA, if applicable)

    - A contact email address

    - Your physical business address

    - A support phone number (recommended, not required)

**Your website must also:**

- Load without any missing images, placeholders, or "Lorem Ipsum" text

- Load at your root domain (e.g. yourbusiness.com) without requiring a path

- Be free of geo blockers and broken links

- Not reference any prohibited use cases (for example, cannabis, high risk financial services, or lead generation)

## step 1: submit A2P standard brand registration

The approval process can be tricky. Please make sure all your information is accurate and consistent. Incorrect or inconsistent details are the #1 reason applications get rejected. New EINs (issued in the last 45 days) are also often rejected. Consider waiting or submitting supporting documents in this case.

> **Warning:** Do not begin your A2P application until you have your CP 575 or 147c form on hand. Your Brand Registration details must match this document exactly.

click here for the written steps

1. From the main ivorey menu, go to **Settings** > **Communications** > **Phone System** > **\[Trust Center\]** tab > and under **A2P Messaging (SMS)**, click the **\[Start Registration\]** button

    1. If your business has a Tax Number (EIN for the US, CCN for Canada, etc.), please select **\[Yes, my business has a tax ID\]** (Standard Low Volume Brand Registration)

    2. If your business does **not** have a Tax Number but operates from a valid Business Address in the US/Canada, please select **\[No, my buisness doesn’t have a tax ID\]** (Sole Prop Brand Registration)

    3. If your business does **not** have a Tax Number and the business address is **not** in US/Canada, unfortunately you cannot proceed with A2P Brand Registration. In this case, the best alternative would be to use Toll-Free numbers

**Note:** If you register as a Sole Proprietor, you're limited to one phone number per Campaign (using more than one can cause error 30034). Your contact phone number must be a US or Canada mobile number that can receive a one-time code, as VoIP and LeadConnector numbers aren't accepted. Your email must also be a public domain email (e.g. Gmail), not a business domain email

2. Enter your **business details**

    1. **Legal Business Name** - Copy and paste this 1:1, exactly as it appears above the Registered Address on your CP 575 or 147c form (IRS EIN confirmation letter)

**Note:** This is case sensitive. If the Legal Business Name on your document is unclear, reach out to Support for clarity before submitting. You can optionally upload your CP 575 to auto-fill your business name, EIN, and address

    2. **Business Type** - Choose from the list (LLC, Corporation, etc.)

    3. **Business Industry** - Choose your business category

    4. **Business Email** - use a domain-branded email (i.e. not a Gmail address, for example)

    5. **Business Region of Operations**

    6. Click **\[Continue\]**

3. Enter your **registered business address**, including Country, State, City, Zip Code, and Street Address.

**Note:** This must be a real street address, and cannot be a PO Box address. Click **\[Continue\]**

4. Enter your **Authorised Representative** (e.g. yourself), including First and Last Name, Business Email Address (not your personal email address), Phone Number, and Job Title. Click **\[Continue\]**

5. Choose Your **Brand Type:**

    1. **Low Volume Standard** (suitable for most):

        1. Up to 6,000 message segments/day

        2. One-time fee: ~$24.49 (includes fast-track)

        3. Up to $12 USD/month campaign fee

    2. **High Volume Standard:**

        1. Up to 600,000 message segments/day

        2. One-time fee: ~$71.90 (includes fast-track)

        3. Up to $12 USD/month campaign fee

6. **Add** **campaign details** \- Quick set-up is the default option. It uses an auto-generated chat widget with locked, carrier-approved language, so you no longer need to manually write your Campaign Description or sample messages.

**Note:** In the same window, you'll see a link to switch to **manual set-up** if you'd prefer, though quick set-up is always the default.

    1. **Messaging use case & website details -** select your messaging use case from the dropdown: **Marketing / Promotional**, **Transactional / Non Marketing**, or **Mixed**. Then add your **Business Website URL**. Tick the age-gated content checkbox only if you send age-restricted content

        1. Marketing / Promotional,

        2. Transactional / Non Marketing

        3. Mixed

**Note:** Your website must be live, publicly accessible, match your Brand registration, and clearly show your business name and contact details. If you select **Mixed**, your widget will include two separate consent checkboxes (informational and promotional), neither of which is pre-selected

    2. **Copy & install the widget code** \- the widget code is generated automatically. Click **\[Copy code\]** and paste it into the body or footer of your website. You can also click **\[Customize widget\]** to adjust the appearance. Confirm the widget is fully installed and visible on your website before you continue

    3. **Website compliance check** - the widget must be the only SMS consent form on the page, so don't place it on a page that also has a contact, lead capture, or appointment form. Tick the checkbox to confirm, then click **\[Continue\]**

**Note:** In the same window, you'll see a link to switch to **manual set-up** if you'd prefer. If you'd like to use manual set-up instead, refer to point 8 below. If you switch to manual set-up and change your mind, click **Chat widget setup - recommended** in the step panel on the Campaign Details screen to return

7. Add **Consent Details**

    1. Review your Campaign Details. The **Use Case Description**, **Sample Message #1**, **Sample Message #2**, **How do Contacts Opt-in to Messages?**, and **Opt-in Message** fields are auto filled and greyed out, since these are generated for you and cannot be edited. Check them over to make sure they're accurate for your business

    2. Below this, tick every checkbox in the **Business Website Compliance Checklist**. All boxes must be checked before you can proceed. Once done, click **\[Review Application\]**

    3. The system will run an automatic compliance review. If any check fails, fix the issue and click **\[Review Again\]**. You won't be able to submit until all checks pass d. The next window shows all the details and information you've provided across the previous steps. If everything looks correct, click **\[Submit Application\]**

**Note**: Passing the compliance review doesn't guarantee approval. If you're using quick set-up, your application is complete once you finish the step above. The step below is for manual set-up only

8. **Manual Set-up.** If you'd like to use manual set-up instead of quick set-up, please follow these steps below:

    1. Add **Campaign Details.** Choose the **Campaign Use Case** that matches your message types, business purpose, and opt-in method, and add your **Website URL**, which must be live, public, and match your Brand information. Then write how you'll use SMS. Your Program Name must match your Registered Brand Name exactly, and your description must be a 1:1 match with the consent wording and Terms & Conditions on your website, mirroring the specific messaging activities your leads are opting into

Example: If your opt-in checkboxes read "These messages will include order confirmation, account notifications & appointment confirmations" and "occasional marketing messages, such as discounts, promotional offers," your Campaign Description should read something like:

"This campaign will be used to contact leads via text messages from \[Legal Business Name\] DBA \[Friendly Business Name\] that have opted in. The messages may include SMS notifications & alerts such as appointment reminders, order confirmations, and SMS alerts. They may also opt-in to receive marketing messages, which would include promotional offers, discounts, and coupon-related messages."

**Note:** Your business type and message type must make sense together. For example, a fast food business sending "Appointment Reminders" will be flagged as suspicious. If this genuinely applies to your business (e.g. for a catering consultation), explain why in your description, for example "Reminders regarding scheduled catering consultations.

Sample messages must include the lead's name, your business name, and an opt-out line (e.g. "Reply STOP to unsubscribe")

**Note:** Only include message types that are disclosed in your Campaign Description and website consent form. For example, you cannot include an appointment reminder sample message if appointment reminders aren't mentioned in your description or on your website.

Example 1: Hi Sarah! This is Mia from \[Business Name\]. Your session for March 10 is confirmed. Need to reschedule? Call 555-555-5555. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.

Example 2: Hey Sam! This is \[Business Name\]. It looks like you missed your appointment. Book a new time here: \[www.yourbusinessname.com/reschedule\]. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.

Select your additional message details (e.g. whether messages include links, phone numbers, age-gated content, or financial content), then click **\[Continue\]**

    2. Add **Consent Details.** Clearly explain, from the end user's perspective, the exact path a lead takes to opt in on your website, including the page they land on, what they click, and what happens next. Always include your Privacy Policy URL and Terms & Conditions URL

**Note:** This section covers consent collected via website forms. If you collect consent verbally or on paper, reach out to Support for guidance

Consent Example: "End users opt in by visiting our website at \[www.yourbusinessname.com/book\] and clicking the \[Book Consultation Now\] button. This opens our opt-in form, where users fill out their details and optionally opt in to receive SMS." If leads can also reach this page via email marketing links, mention this too

Opt-In Confirmation Example: "You're subscribed to SMS updates from \[Your Business Name\]. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."

When consent details are added, click **\[Review Application\]**

    3. Tick the checkboxes in the **Business Website Compliance Checklist**, then click **\[Review Application\]**

    4. **Compliance Review.** The system will automatically scan and validate your Opt-in form, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Service, using the URLs provided. You'll then be able to see line by line which items passed or failed, with clear guidance on what needs to be updated. You won't be prevented from proceeding even if some criteria are flagged as missing, you can choose to:

        1. Click **\[Proceed\]** to submit your application, without addressing the issues outlined in the compliance review

        2. Click the **X** or **\[Back\]** button, to address the issues and proceed

**Note:** This section covers consent collected via website forms. If you collect consent verbally or on paper, reach out to Support for guidance. While this compliance review is designed to reduce common causes of rejection, the feedback and suggestions provided do not guarantee carrier approval

    5. When you're ready, click **\[Submit\]**

what happens after A2P submission?

After you hit **Submit** on your A2P Brand registration application:

1. Your application goes for third party approval. This process can take up to 2 weeks, but is _usually_ quicker. Please note that ivorey has zero control over this process and we cannot do anything to speed it up.

2. If denied, you'll need to address any errors and resubmit. Review the rejection reason carefully and refer back to the [How to Avoid Rejection](https://help.ivorey.io/en/articles/11568321-a2p-registration.md#heading-2-how-to-avoid-rejection) section above to identify what needs to be corrected before resubmitting.

3. Once your Brand registration is successfully approved as part of the A2P 10DLC setup, the next essential step is to register a Campaign associated with that Brand. This step is **mandatory** to begin sending A2P messages through 10DLC phone numbers. It’s very important to note that Campaign registration is **not** triggered automatically once your Brand gets approved.

4. You will need to manually submit the Campaign registration yourself, after Brand approval. Until this is done, your A2P 10DLC setup remains **incomplete**, which means you will not be able to send compliant SMS messages through your 10DLC numbers.

* * *

## step 2: submit A2P campaign registration

A Campaign is required before you can send A2P messages. If you continued straight into Campaign Details at the end of Step 1, you've already registered your first Campaign. Use this step when you want to register an additional Campaign on a Brand that's already approved.

click here for the written steps

1. From the main ivorey menu, go to **Settings** > **Communications** > **Phone System** > **\[Trust Center\]** tab > and under **A2P Messaging**, click the **\[Create Campaign\]** button then select your approved Brand from the dropdown

2. Select your messaging volume. If your Brand has a Tax Number, choose **Low Volume Standard Brand** (up to 6,000 message segments/day) or **High Volume Standard Brand** (up to 600,000 message segments/day). Both support multiple phone numbers. If your Brand has no Tax Number, only single number registration is available, so you can link one number (and change it later)

3. Complete your Campaign Details and User Consent using **quick set-up**, which is the default option. Follow items **6 and 7 in Step 1** above.

If you'd like to use manual set-up instead, click the link to switch to **manual set-up** and follow item 8 in Step 1 above

4. Click **\[Review Application\]**, fix anything the compliance review flags, then click **\[Submit Application\]**

5. Await Campaign approval before using your number for A2P messaging. You can follow your Campaign's progress on the **Campaigns** tab

**Note**: Don't create another Campaign or resubmit while your Campaign shows a **Pending** status

## if your registration is rejected

If your registration is rejected, the **View required fixes** window explains what happened in plain language, then lists the specific actions to take. The guidance is matched to how you registered, so the fixes differ depending on whether you used quick set-up (Chat Widget) or manual set-up.

click here for the written steps

1. **If you registered through quick set-up (Chat Widget)**
The guidance focuses on what you control, such as your website, any other forms on your site, and your policy links. You won't be asked to change the consent wording or form fields, as the widget creates these for you. Here are two common examples:

    1. **Website lacks business information (error 30919):** reviewers opened the website on your brand registration and couldn't tell what your business does, or that you send text messages. To fix this:

        1. Add your company name, a specific description of what you offer, and your contact details

        2. Add more than one page. A single page with no About section and no description of your products will be rejected

        3. Remove any leftover placeholder text, such as \[company name\]

        4. Link your Privacy Policy and Terms of Service on your website

    2. **Invalid opt-in information (error 30896):** reviewers didn't see clear, standalone consent to text messages on your site. To fix this:

        1. Remove any other form on your site that collects phone numbers or SMS consent

        2. Link a live Privacy Policy and Terms of Service from the page your widget sits on

        3. Check that the widget loads on the website URL on your brand registration, not only on a subpage

2. **If you registered through manual set-up**
The guidance addresses the opt-in methods and consent information you submitted, so the fixes are in your campaign details as well as your website. Here are some common examples:

    1. **Sample messages unclear or not matching your use case (error 30893):** use Sample Message #1 for promotional content and Sample Message #2 for transactional content. For mixed messaging, include at least one of each. Put templated fields in brackets (e.g. \[First Name\]), include your business name in one message, and include opt-out language in one message

    2. **Description unclear or not matching your use case (error 30886):** make your Campaign Description accurate and detailed, so it clearly explains the purpose of your messaging and matches your use case

    3. **Consent language missing required disclosures (error 30924):** near the checkbox, include the message type, message frequency, "message and data rates may apply", and STOP instructions

    4. **Opt-in checkbox missing or pre-selected (error 30925):** add an SMS specific checkbox that is unchecked by default

    5. **Consent bundled into mandatory terms (error 30923):** make SMS opt-in a separate, optional action, so people can decline messaging and still use your service

    6. **Privacy Policy says opt-in data is shared with third parties for marketing (error 30932):** update your Privacy Policy to state that mobile information will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes. You can use the recommended wording in the Policy & Terms recommendations section above

> **Info:** For some rejection reasons, such as a business type mismatch, the guidance will tell you what needs to change before resubmitting, as resubmitting without that change won't help. For reasons like Privacy Policy verification, the steps include the exact wording carriers require.

## check your number's A2P registration status

Once a phone number is linked to your A2P Campaign, you can see exactly where it stands in carrier registration, in real time. This means you'll know the moment a number is ready to text, rather than waiting and wondering.

Each number linked to a Campaign shows one of these statuses:

- **Pending:** your number is still being registered with carriers. This is expected while registration is in progress

- **Registered:** your number is fully registered and ready to text

- **Failed:** the registration was rejected. You can spot this yourself and take action without needing to contact Support

Numbers that are fully registered with carriers also display an **A2P Verified** tag on the phone numbers page. You'll find these statuses on your phone numbers page.

> **Info:** Registration usually completes within 24 hours, but timing depends on the carrier. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to several days. Seeing a Pending status during this time is expected.

## frequently asked questions

what’s the difference between sole proprietor and standard brand?

Sole Proprietor is for individuals without an EIN. Standard Brand is for registered U.S. businesses with an EIN.

why was my A2P brand registration rejected?

Likely reasons for an A2P rejection include EIN mismatch, invalid website, or use of a PO Box address. Ensure the legal business name and EIN number match **exactly** to what’s shown on the CP 575 form. Do not use the business name found on W2 or W9 forms, as they may differ. If the business name spans multiple lines on your CP 575/147c letter, you must enter all lines above the address line during registration.

- **Example:**
    ABC Holding Group Inc.
    Division of Regional Services
    123 Main Street
    New York, NY 10001

The legal name to enter would be: ABC Holding Group Inc. Division of Regional Services

can i add new numbers after completing A2P brand and campaign registration?

Yes, after your brand and campaign are approved, you can add new numbers which will be automatically registered under the same campaign. There is no resubmission is needed, but it may take several days for registration to complete.

why can’t i resubmit my A2P 10DLC registration in the trust centre?

If your A2P 10DLC registration fails multiple times, it may reach the **maximum retry limit**. When this happens, the A2P section in the Trust Centre appears greyed out and the registration wizard is no longer available.

Once the retry limit is reached, the registration can’t be resubmitted from your end, even if you’re prompted to do so. An internal reset is required before you can return to the Trust Centre and submit the registration again. Please reach out to Support via the live chat widget to request a reset.

why does my A2P 10DLC registration keep getting rejected even though i have a contact form?

Carriers have very strict requirements for how you collect phone numbers. Your registration is likely being rejected because the form is "hidden" (for example, if a user has to pick a calendar date before seeing the form) or because it's missing mandatory legal language.

To get approved, ensure your campaign link goes directly to a page where the form is visible immediately, include an unchecked consent box that mentions your business name, and provide clear links to your Privacy Policy and Terms of Service right next to the submit button.

do i need to resubmit my A2P campaign if i change the website or opt-in flow?

No, an approved A2P campaign remains active even if you modify your site. However, you must ensure all updates stay compliant with A2P guidelines to avoid potential suspension of your phone system. We highly recommend keeping the original spirit of the A2P approved campaign in mind when updating.
